Carma Points

Projects: January 31st, 2008

Tuesday the 29th of February Justin Kramm and Rikesh Lal from Publicis & Hal Riney, San Francisco, delivered a brief asking us to create and promote a product that brings awareness to a worthy cause. We were given 10 hours to find the cause, develop our idea, visualize it and prepare a presentation.

My role in the project.

- Come up with and develop the core idea
- Write the debrief
- Research the cause
- Make sure that deadlines were meet.

The worthy cause

The primary human source of pollutant carbon dioxide (CO2) discharge in the atmosphere is from the burning of fossil fuels for energy production and transport. As a result, the global temperature is increasing, throwing the world’s climate out of balance.

Introducing Carma points

We want to give the individual the option to compensate for it’s own pollution, just like companies. Emissions trading is a method used to control pollution by letting companies or other groups pay to compensate their emissions of pollutants. We want to put this concept in the hands of the individuals and make them conscious of their part in the global environment. We do this by offering them the possibility to buy Carma Points. Carma Points is a easy way to communicate the amount of CO2 emissions your car puts out for each combusted liter.

We are planning to communicate the Carma points at a place where the consumer are a contributing to the pollution themselves. We therefor choose the gas-station since there’s a clear connection between the costumer’s car, gas and how it affects the environment.

The money generated from the Carma points would be used to invest in more emission allowances. By doing this the result would be fewer allowances available globally. By buying Carma Points you as an individual therefor are not only paying for your own pollution, you’re also making it more expensive for big polluters to pollute.

Visualization

To communicate our message to the consumer we are planning to use touch screens by the gas-pump. Buy using a video screen we can easily display the need information at the place where it will have the greatest impact.
